A Gift To You From Donna On Her Birthday
At age seven, while visiting her Aunt Lonnie, Donna wrote three stories. These stories have been scanned and saved as PDFs. Links to the PDFs are given below this message. The PDFs are fairly large, 25 megabytes or more. The best way to enjoy these stories is to download them onto your computer or other device and then open them.

Thank you for the wonderful birthday gift! Not only were the stories fun, but her ability to write complex sentences with correct spelling and punctuation is amazing at seven years old! She was born to be a writer!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these Mike. I love the "Made in USA". This would have been 1945 if I am not mistaken. I assume everyone was feeling a strong sense of nationalism at that time.
ReplyDeleteMike,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for scanning and posting these.
How very special to have these! I am rereading these over and over again. I love to think about and ponder what Donna was thinking when she wrote these stories. There are so many details conveyed within her written words, even with so few words. She appears to have grasped this concept, even at such a young age.
My favorite is The Farm."
A comment from Logan Strong. "Wow these are so incredible! I absolutely love all of the extra effort put into the speech of the story, you can hear it as if she's reading it aloud! She clearly was always a great storyteller. The underlines and extra annunciations are so fitting. It's like Maggi said, really rare for someone so young to be able to write at this level. I also love the drawings that set the setting for the story! How creative! The stories are short but still teach valuable lessons even for adults, In a simple wholesome way without any real danger. Thanks so much for sharing! My favorite was the Kitty Story."
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing these. I could so easily see the scenes n my head as she described them. It’s amazing that she wrote these at age seven. I’ll echo the comments of others that the drawings at the beginning were wonderful. My favorite was The Little Fawn. It had a powerful underlying message. Omi really was born to be a writer.
ReplyDeleteI love the little music notes embedded in the songs and the “Made in USA” at the end of The Farm!
ReplyDeleteOh, I’m not anonymous, just didn’t know how to make my name appear!

"And it was a beautiful day." -- Donna Michels, "The Farm"
ReplyDeleteI am so grateful for this gift Mike, and for Donna; Her simple and profound stories always bring me back to center and presence in the moment while at the same time I'm with her, hearing the voices, seeing what she sees and sensing what she felt. The year, place or subject are almost irrelevent. Her words are always a gift and a gentle reminder to pause.
